Real Madrid win the clasico against FC Barcelona

Real Madrid overcame FC Barcelona 2-1 on Sunday at the Camp Nou in the 10th La Liga matchday clasico. Madrid won thanks to goals from David Alaba and Lucas Vazquez.

Four in a row : Real Madrid won its 4the consecutive clasico 2-1 against FC Barcelona, Sunday, October 24, at Camp Nou. He temporarily took over the reins of the standings, before the match between Atlético Madrid and Real Sociedad, at 21 h.

Icons Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos left for Paris Saint-Germain, but the new stars of the clasico are here: while Ansu Fati did not shine, David Alaba scored a superb first goal in the white shirt (32e).

Real Madrid has made its law in Catalonia for the 10e La Liga day, carried by his prodigy Vinicius, and this despite a chopped end of the match, marked by the goals of Lucas Vazquez (90e+4) and Sergio Aguero (90e+7).

The goal of the Austrian international, heir to Ramos’ n°4 since this summer, is proof that Real has better negotiated its passage of generational relay for this first clasico of a “new era”, as the Spanish press qualified this Sunday.

Alaba, Vinicius and Rodrygo, a winning trio

On the half-hour mark, Alaba chipped the ball into the feet of Oscar Mingueza on the edge of the merengue area. He serves Vinicius, left on the left wing, and projects himself too. The Brazilian finds his compatriot Rodrygo, who in turn serves Alaba, who closes his left foot and finishes with a ball lodged in the small net of Marc-André ter Stegen.

The action mixed a 29-year-old recruit, who arrived in the summer to reinforce a decimated defensive sector, and the two Brazilian youngsters from Real (21 for Vinicius, 20 for Rodrygo).

The other man to have shone side merengue was this same Vinicius: mocked last year, he is sharp since the beginning of the season alongside Karim Benzema. And he was again very dangerous in his right lane on Sunday, exploiting his speed in the face of an overmatched Oscar Mingueza, and replaced by Philippe Coutinho at half-time.

He even almost opened the scoring in the 24e after dribbling Marc-André ter Stegen twice in the box, but his shot was countered by Jordi Alba, with whom he had just latched on after a contentious action in the box.

Barça had their chances, but squandered them. There was that big miss from Sergiño Dest, who did not frame his shot while he was alone against Thibaut Courtois (25e). This head of Gerard Piqué, who shaved the foot of the left post (35e). Or this opportunity of Ansu Fati in the box, countered by David Alaba just before the break (44e).

Supporters at the rendezvous for this first clasico

Result: this first clasico of the season in front of a Camp Nou almost full (86,422 spectators), a kind of passing examination for this Catalan eleven composed only of players trained in La Masia or the Netherlands, is missed.

The only positive is the first goal in the blaugrana jersey of “Kun” Agüero, who replaced Ansu Fati in the second half before scoring in stoppage time. But the rest of the game only confirmed the gaping flaws of this rebuilding Barça: defensive deficiencies, and a lack of offensive leadership among others.

Sign of the ongoing change of era: Gavi (17 years and 80 days) has become, before Pedri, the youngest holder in a clasico in the XXIe century… while opposite, Luka Modric (36 years and 45 days) became the oldest.

But as talented as the new Catalan generation is, it was Madrid’s alchemy that won on Sunday afternoon. One more success in the bag of Karim Benzema, mute for his 25e clasico, but which discreetly chains victories on the road to a possible Golden ball.

This week was also marked by the trial in the case of the sextape of Mathieu Valbuena, in which Karim Benzema was sentenced to 10 months in prison.
